My Story: I am born with eyes that could see 'them'. I often wonder why people are so curious about 'them' when I literally see them everywhere.
I am here to share an incident, not to spook anyone out. If this gets published, I would probably send in more.
I remembered vivdly when I was a child, I am used to playing alone as I am the only child in my family anyway. When I was about 3 years old, my father often wonder why I would giggle and talk to the air. One day he caught me kicking a ball against the wall and he asked me," You like playing football, but you are a girl." "No, I was playing with Ah Zai, he is right there, can't you see?" I pointed. My dad fell into horrified silence and in a swift sweep of his arm, he carried me away and ran as quickly as he could, out of his own house!
But what really freaked him was the time when my grandmother passed away. He was, as usual, enjoying his quiet time in the washroom when he heard sound of slippered feet swipping outside the door. The sound stopped right outside the washroom door and a low, hoarse voice asked,"You doing big business?" in dialect, teochew. My dad, not liking the idea being disturbed while he was in 'business' replied a impatient "ya la". There was no sound after. So he happily went on reading his papers. Quite suddenly it hit him. 'Hey! My wife don't talk to me in Teochew!' Quickly he cleaned himself and ran for his bedroom, finding my mother asleep in bed. He woke her,"Did you just wake up and ask me whether I am doing business?" Irritated at being woken up from her sleep she snapped,"You mad ah. What time already? And...why would I ask you that when I know you do that every night?" My father went straight into bed, freaked out.
You see, my grandmother usually wakes up late in the night to shut any open windows, afraid of burglars. As she got on with her 'duty', she had to pass by the washroom wearing her slippers. When my dad asked me the next day whether grandma came back, I nodded and told him casually that "she smell of the medicated oil and she has got maids now. We burnt those figurines, didn't we?"
I guess that night grandma just wanted to say 'hi'. Dad don't do his business late at night now..
